Hello and I welcome to Top News World, and you are reading it correctly, India’s new friend Malaysia. Some of you might say, wait, is this the same Malaysia with whom our relations had soured a few years back? By the way, here you will see that Malaysia is spread over two islands. It has a population of around 34 million.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! It is not a small population. Remember, Australia’s population is also around 24 million and 26 million. So, Malaysia’s population is quite large. If you look at the size, it has a strong economy and it is a very diverse country in terms of religion.
The majority religion here is Islam, but at the same time, you will also find people of Christian, Hindu, Buddhist, various other religions. Now, you will remember that around 2019-20, the prime minister here was Mahathir Mohammad.
Mahathir Mohammad took a line and suddenly started saying that what India is doing in Kashmir is very wrong. India’s Citizenship Amendment I remember that in 2019, a lot of bad information was spread about Kashmir and CAA.
At that time, China and Pakistan were also raising this issue in the UN. Statements were issued repeatedly on this. People in India were also making many research videos on this. Now it is in front of you that we have come from 2019 to 2024.
No one’s citizenship has been taken away. Elections are going to be held in Kashmir very soon. The situation has been stabilized to a great extent. But at that time, around 2019-20, Mahathir Mohammad had said that look, people are dying in Kashmir.
There is no need for India’s new Citizenship Act. Basically, Mahathir Mohammad was constantly commenting on which law is being made in India and which law is not being made.
His comments were so bad that once he himself had to admit in the year 2020 that yes, because of my comments on the Kashmir issue, relations between India and Malaysia have deteriorated to a great extent. But that time has passed.
There is nothing like that for India in Malaysia, there is some hatred etc. Their leader Mahathir Mohammad came here and he used to speak a lot against India and hence I would say that leaders matter. I am worried that if tomorrow a leader like Mahathir Mohammad comes to power in Bangladesh, the situation may worsen.
So look at the tenure of Mahathir Mohammad, since then India has tried to improve relations with Malaysia. First of all, both the countries converted their relations into a strategic partnership and now recently when Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, came to India, both the countries together with the Indian PM converted their relations into a comprehensive strategic partnership.
This means that now it is not the case that we will see the relations with Malaysia from a certain angle only, like trade in palm oil or investment coming from here, not tourism, everything comes under comprehensive. Here you talk about technology, you talk about AI, about manufacturing.
Let’s talk about science and technology. Basically, there are very few countries with which India has signed a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. So, taking this relationship with Malaysia, especially after a leader like Mahathir Mohammad, shows India’s maturity. We have seen the country’s government, its people, its potential leader.
Sometimes KP Oli comes at a place, sometimes Mahathir Mohammad comes at a place, every leader comes at a certain time and ends after 10 years. So, you can improve relations with the country later.
The recent visit was of Anwar Ibrahim, who is the PM of Malaysia, when he came to India, so many important agreements were signed, so many important things were said, which you should know about. First of all, there has been talk of increasing India-Malaysia trade.
By looking at the size of Malaysia, do not think that how much will our trade be with Malaysia – 5 billion, 6 billion, 10 billion. Let me tell you that the trade between both the countries is of 20 billion dollars and both the countries have now decided that they will increase this trade further in the coming times, so there is a possibility that in the future India-Malaysia trade can easily reach 30-40 billion dollars.
Another thing worth noting is that today there are about 70 Malaysian companies which are operating in India and there are 150 Indian companies which are operating in Malaysia and see, Malaysia will also want to purchase defence equipment tomorrow, the country along with Malaysia, Philippines has recently purchased Brahmos missile, in the future Philippines will purchase a lot more defence equipment from India, let me tell you, do not be surprised if Malaysia also purchases a lot of defence equipment from India in the future.
Malaysia is very important for us and PM Modi has A very important work has been started in collaboration with Malaysia that India’s UPI is at the forefront of online transactions here, in the same way in Malaysia, PayNet is different from UPI in the overall structure, but they are using PayNet there, so UPI and Malaysia’s PayNet will be integrated so that in future a seamless transaction can be done in the tourism business and businesses do not feel any hindrance anywhere.
We have emphasized on accelerating the review of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement between India and Malaysia. We have decided to establish a Digital Council for cooperation in digital technology and to form a startup alliance.
Work will also be done to connect India’s UPI and Malaysia’s PayNet. Now, this statement of PM Modi has been telecasted a lot by the Malaysian media in its news outlets because if you only introduce UPI in Malaysia, you say that now UPI will be available in Malaysia and the Indian community is starting to use it, okay?
78% of the people in Malaysia are using UPI. UPI is a good thing but when you integrate Malaysia’s largest payment system PayNet with UPI, then it becomes something else.
That is why it is in a lot of discussion. It has not been integrated yet, the process has already started.
I am sure that in the coming times, we will get to hear a lot of positive news about it. And look at Malaysia, I have to say that this country is very eager to move away from the dollar.
India and Malaysia have already had a lot of discussions about it. Whatever trade is to be done, which is a massive trade of 20 billion dollars, why don’t we use local currencies there gradually.
The currency of Malaysia is Ringgit, so Ringgit Rupee trade will be promoted. And the PM of Malaysia has come to India and said this.
Very few PMs say this openly that when we call the Global South, then here we are talking about Africa and all the developing countries here. Recently, you must know.
India had also organized a Global South Summit and Pakistan and China were not invited to that summit. So the PM of Malaysia is openly saying that the entire Global South will have to end its dependence on the US dollar. I often see the reaction of Americans.
We Must Move away from US Dollar says Malaysian PM in India!
When Americans are noticing all these things, they get very frustrated. Think from their point of view. For many decades, the US dollar has ruled the global economy and on the basis of that, the lifestyle of Americans has improved so much. Now suddenly they are seeing that there is an almost rebellion going on in the world against the dollar.
Every country wants to move away from the dollar. That is why Trump also recently said that he will punish countries if they move away from the dollar. No such statement has come from Biden yet. Let me tell you that for now, the PM of Malaysia is able to say all this.
Prime Ministers of many other countries sometimes say such things once Trump comes to power. You will see that he will continuously tweet that whoever leaves the US dollar will have to leave a lot of things of USA and then also reduce the trade with us.
So right now the US is not creating much of an issue about this but in future this will become a huge issue. Now here you can ask a question that if Malaysia wants to leave the dollar, then these people obviously do not want to join BRICS, this issue has also been discussed.
See, if dollar has to go away, then the currency of BRICS is currently in the developmental stage, the R5 currency where there is rupee, rembimbi, ruble, South African rand, apart from that there is Brazilian currency. Malaysia is also very interested in the single currency that will be formed by uniting all of these.
He talked to India to help him and get him membership of the BRICS countries. The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has been signed.
Both sides have forgotten the past and now it has been said that no holds barred conversation will be held on topics such as space, AI, BRICS currencies, defence, and both the countries will discuss everything. I did not just write in the title that this country is India’s new friend Malaysia.
In times to come, there are going to be a lot of positive developments related to India and Malaysia and obviously I will keep bringing updated you.
